According to IDFA news, in 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated
July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month as
National Ice Cream Day. He recognized ice cream as a fun and nutritious
food that is enjoyed by over 90 percent of the nation's population. In the proclamation, President Reagan called for all people of the
United States to observe these events with "appropriate ceremonies and
activities." Hence, the International Ice Cream Association (IICA)
encourages retailers and consumers to celebrate July as National Ice Cream
Month. In 2015, National Ice Cream Day will be Sunday, July 19.
But what about here in the Philippines? As far as I know, July is the Nutrition
Month. According to Rappler, the
National Nutrition Council (NNC) announced that this year’s Nutrition Month
theme will focus on the growing problem of obesity in the Philippines.
Oh well! As President Ronald Reagan said, “ice cream is fun
and nutritious”. Therefore, we can
celebrate our Nutrition Month by screaming “Ice Cream pa more!”
